How to write notes

Mouse: move over the staff — a gold preview shows the drum (chosen by the line or space you point at) and the beat. Click to write it; click a note again to remove it.

Touch: pick a drum above, then tap the beat on the staff.

Keyboard (like MuseScore): click the staff, then type a drum letter to write it and move on — H hi-hat, O open hi-hat, S snare, K bass drum, T high tom, F floor tom, R ride, C crash. Shift+letter adds to the same beat (e.g. hi-hat + bass drum). 3 4 5 6 = semiquaver, quaver, crotchet, minim. 0 = rest. ← → move, Delete clears the cursor beat, Ctrl+Z undo. A new bar is added when you write past the last one.

Free Online Drum Machine and Drum Notation Editor

Aurzart Drum Studio is a free online drum machine and drum notation editor with two modes. In Groove mode, anyone can make beats by tapping a simple grid — no music reading needed. In Notation mode, drum teachers, music schools and students can write drum parts bar by bar as proper drum notation, with the right note values, beams, rests and sticking, and print or export them.

Practise with a loop, a one-bar count-in, a metronome, a tempo trainer that speeds you up as you improve, and silent bars to test your inner timing. Start from rock, funk, disco and half-time grooves or the classic rudiments — single strokes, double strokes and paradiddles. Export as MIDI or WAV audio, and in Notation mode as a score image, a printable PDF or a practice video. You can also import MIDI drum files. Everything runs in your browser — no download, no sign-up.
