Free rhythm reading practice with timing feedback
Reading a rhythm and playing it in time are two different skills. This free tool shows you a rhythm on the staff, counts you in, and then scores how closely you tap it back, note by note.
How it works
Choose a time signature (4/4, 3/4 or 2/4), a level, a length of 1, 2 or 4 bars and a tempo. Press Listen first to hear the rhythm, then press Start. After the count-in, tap the pad or press the space bar on every note. Rests stay silent.
Levels
Level 1 uses whole, half and quarter notes and quarter rests. Level 2 adds eighth notes, eighth rests, half rests and dotted half notes. Level 3 adds sixteenth notes, dotted rhythms and syncopation.
See where you rush or drag
Every note shows how many milliseconds early or late your tap was. You also get a score out of 100 and a short comment on whether you tend to rush or drag. Use wired headphones or the speaker for the most accurate timing.
For teachers
Set up an exercise, add your name, a goal score and a short message, and create a link. Your students open it with your settings in place, with nothing to install and no sign-up. Send it on WhatsApp or by email, then ask them to copy their result and send it back.
